here is the reason why there is a $1.4T dollar deficit and it has to do with the phony SS trust fund. the problem is there is no trust fund to take money out of to pay for SS. instead the difference in payroll tax and mandatory spending is paid out of the total tax revenue. here are the numbers from 2022;
total spending = $6.3T
mandatory spending = $4.6T
discretionary spending = $1.7T
total taxes = $5T
individual taxes = $2.8T
payroll tax= $1.7T
corporate taxes = $0.5T
deficit = total spending – total taxes
deficit = $6.3T – $5T = $1.3T
this agrees with the deficit when calculated like this;
tax for discretionary spending = total tax – mandatory
tax left over = $5T – $4.6T = $0.4T
deficit = discretionary – tax left after mandatory
deficit = $1.7T – $0.4T = $1.3T
the SS gap = mandatory – payroll tax
= $4.6T – $1.7T = 2.9T gap
the $2.9T gap is paid out of the total tax revenue.
this shows that there is no trust fund to pay for SS and it is being payed out of the total tax revenue. fix the SS paycap and raise corporate taxes to balance the budget. spending cuts are not going to work.
